The Entrepreneur's guide to running a local business

Business Owner Profile: Art Jeffries

One of the best things about running your own business is the ability to scale the business to fit your needs. For some, Dumpling may (or aspire to) serve as a sole income generator, for others it supplements another income, not to mention every variation in-between. In Art Jeffries case, as a disabled Veteran, earnings from his business supplement his monthly disability check.

– Art, on how he grows his brand

How long have you been a professional Personal Shopper? On and off for a couple of years.

Why did you choose to start your own Personal Shopping business on Dumpling?
The Summer of 2020 was a difficult and challenging time. I chose Dumpling because I needed to have something to focus my energy on other than the Covid19 pandemic.

What steps have you taken to grow your clientele?
I’m very social on social media. I devote time to social media marketing every day.  I look for other local businesses in my area, especially small start ups who would benefit from a delivery service. I follow, like, and share those businesses. Occasionally comment on their post. I’m active in local community groups, especially those with subject matter such as food or cooking. I started my own Facebook group. Basically I spend a lot of time building my personal brand and trying to generate interest in my business.

What are your business goals for this year?
Continue to grow my business to the point of not needing to rely on other gig apps.

If you were to give one piece of advice to a new business owner, what would it be?
Keep it positive.  Don’t bash Instacart or other services as part of your marketing strategy.
